Course Title: Principles of Algebra and Geometry
Course Description: The purpose of this course is to prepare students for ISAT testing by giving students a knowledge of both Algebra and Geometry.
Course Website: www.owenmathclass.com
Big Ideas: We will study as many of the following units as time allows in this course:
1.Target P – Summarize, represent, and interpret data on a single count or measurement variable.
2.Target O – Define trigonometric ratios and solve problems involving right triangles
3.Geometry - Transformations
4.Target I – Solve equations and inequalities in one variable (Linear)
5.Target G – Create equations that describe numbers or relationships (Linear and Exponential)
6.Target J – Represent and solve equations and inequalities graphically (Linear and Exponential)
7.Target L – Interpret functions that arise in applications in terms of a context (Linear and Exponential)
8.Target M – Analyze functions using different representations (Linear and Exponential)
9.Target N – Build a function that models a relationship between two quantities (Linear and Exponential)
10.Target I – Solve equations and inequalities in one variable (Quadratic)
11.Target G – Create equations that describe numbers or relationships (Quadratic)
12.Target J – Represent and solve equations and inequalities graphically (Quadratic
13.Target L – Interpret functions that arise in applications in terms of a context (Quadratic)
14.Target M – Analyze functions using different representations (Quadratic
15.Target N – Build a function that models a relationship between two quantities (Quadratic)
16.Target D – Interpret the structure of expressions
17.Target E – Write expressions in equivalent forms to solve problems

Classroom rules:
- Respect others and their property
- Have all materials, and have them ready to use when the bell rings
- Be polite and helpful
- Don’t curse or swear
- No cheating*
Consequences:
- First offense: Warning
- Second offense: Short conference with student
- Third offense: Student will be sent to ISS
Quarter Grading:
Assignments……………………………………………………………10%
Quizzes…………………………………………………………………30%
Interim Assessments..………………………………………………….40%
End of Quarter Exam.………………………………………………….20%
Procedures:
- Turning work in
- Work must be placed in the appropriate tray in the room.
- Late work
- Completing work late puts you at a disadvantage in class. Math is a subject that relies on previously learned skills. I strongly encourage you to complete your work on time.
- Pre-Tests
- For each section in a target you will complete a pre-test.
- If you score high enough on the pre-test you will not need to complete the assignment for that section.
- Interim assessments
- You will take interim assessments once the appropriate number of targets have been completed. These are computerized tests.
- The interim assessments cannot be retaken.
- Quizzes
- Quizzes will be given at the end of each week.
- Quizzes may cover any material discussed during the course.
- Leaving the classroom for any reason
- If you are leaving the classroom without a staff member, take the pass.
- End-of-period class dismissal
- I have an alarm that will tell you when you can pack up at the end of class.
- Do not pack up before I give you permission to.
- Food and Drink
- No food or drink will be allowed in the classroom.
- Electronic Devices
- Use of electronic devices is not allowed unless directed by the teacher.
